Yoga is a very beneficial physical activity for people of all age groups. Not only does it help in toning the body and keeping it flexible, but yoga also trains the mind to be more calm and composed. This combination of physical and mental benefits can bring miraculous changes to a person’s life.
Yoga is a combination of body, strength and mind. The history of yoga is long and abrupt in the tradition. The word yoga has its first reveal in the Rig Veda that is recognized as the oldest of the sacred texts. The history of yoga is separated into four main periods named a pre-classical period, classical period, post-classical period and the modern period. It is considered an ancient system of health as well as fitness that was originated from India. However, the practitioners and followers of yogic tradition do not only have the primary goal of fitness, but they also use for other practices like mental focus, expanding spiritual energy using the breathing methods.
Yoga uses the imagery of trees with branch, roots, trunks, fruits and buds to express its spiritual message and guide sessions. Every branch of yoga represents different focuses and set of characteristics.
Hatha Yoga– It is the physical practice of yoga that concentrates on the asana practice and subtle energy flow in the body called as prana
Raja Yoga– It involves meditation and strict adherence to the chain of disciplinary steps acknowledged as eight limbs of yoga.
Karma Yoga– It endeavours to form a future free from lack of enthusiasm and egotism.
Bhakti Yoga– This is practised to set up the path of loyalty, an optimistic way to feed emotions and develop acceptance as well as patience.
Jnana Yoga– This branch consists of understanding, the path of the researcher and developing mental power through study.
Tantra Yoga– This helps to create the way of ritual, custom or consummation of relations.
Approaching yoga with a definite aim in mind can facilitate an individual choose which branch to pursue.
This is purely a personal preference. Some people do well on an empty stomach while some will benefit from the energy they get from having eaten something before the physical activity. If you do choose to fill your stomach, make sure to keep it light. Filling the tummy to the brim is not recommended. Plus, make sure that you eat the food at least an hour or so before doing the yoga exercises. In case you do not wish to eat anything, remember that it is a good idea to drink some water so that the body is hydrated during the workout.
The only rule to keep in mind is this – never wear any clothes that hug your body tightly and make you uncomfortable. That’s it. Choose something that is breathable and allows your body to move freely as you please without any restrictions. If you sweat a lot when exercising, ensure that the fabric of the dress has moisture wicking abilities. You can find some great yoga pants online. It is best to arrive at least 15 minutes before the yoga class starts. This will give you sufficient time to get settled, make new acquaintances, locate bathrooms, and so on. Plus, being present before the yoga instructor enters the room helps to avoid any uncomfortable introductions you may have had to do if you arrive late to the class. You might feel nervous before starting the yoga class. Understand that this is all right. Your nervousness will soon dissolve as you immerse in the practice.
Doing yoga definitely has its benefits. But like all physical activity, it can also cause harm if you do it incorrectly. In case you start feeling pain or any uncomfortable feeling in any part of the body, make sure to let the instructor know. He will assess your pose and correct it so that you get rid of the pain and do the exercises accurately. Never dismiss your pain as something trivial no matter how small it is.
The final pose of most yoga exercises is the savasana. In this exercise, you simply lay down on the back and try to relax as best as you can. When you do it initially, you may feel awkward. You might even find it difficult to relax because of a highly active mind. Don’t worry. Heed the words of your instructor and follow it. You’ll soon enter a state of mind that will bring calmness.
